PNPD/CAPES – National Postdoctoral Program

The PNPD/CAPES (National Postdoctoral Program of CAPES) is an institutional grant program that funds postdoctoral fellowships in academic Stricto sensu Graduate Programs (PPG) recommended by CAPES. The program aims to:

a) promote high-level academic studies;

b) strengthen national research groups;

c) renew academic staff in graduate programs at higher education and research institutions;

d) promote the integration of Brazilian and foreign researchers into postdoctoral fellowships, encouraging their participation in research projects developed by Graduate Programs in the country.

The PNPD/CAPES fellowship includes two types of financial support: a monthly scholarship and an annual research grant. This funding is intended to support the fellow’s research activities, such as participation in conferences, seminars, and symposia.

Application Process

Candidates must apply through a public call for applications (editais), which will be made available on the program's website. Applications must follow the guidelines specified in the current call.


REQUIREMENTS FOR PNPD FELLOWSHIP APPLICANTS

Interested candidates must:

I – Hold a doctoral degree by the time the fellowship begins, obtained from programs evaluated by CAPES and recognized by the CNE/MEC. Proof of degree must be presented via a copy of the doctoral diploma or an official certificate of course completion. Diplomas obtained abroad must be reviewed by the Graduate Program in Health Sciences.

II – Provide an updated CV on the CNPq Lattes Platform, or, if a foreign applicant, a curriculum vitae showing a record of patent filings and/or publications of impactful scientific and technological works.

III – Not be retired or in a similar employment status.

IV – Apply under one of the following categories:

a) Brazilian or foreign resident in Brazil holding a temporary visa, without an employment relationship;

b) Foreign applicant residing abroad, without an employment relationship;

c) Faculty or researcher employed at higher education or public research institutions in Brazil.

Notes:

  • 1: Foreign applicants residing abroad must provide proof of a residential address abroad at the time of application submission.

  • 2: Substitute professors may apply under category “a”, provided they maintain their teaching duties, subject to analysis and approval by the Graduate Program.

  • 3: Applicants under category “c” must provide proof of a leave of absence from their home institution for a period compatible with the fellowship duration.

  • 4: Applicants in category “c” cannot carry out the postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution where they are employed.


OBLIGATIONS OF THE PNPD FELLOW

I – Submit an annual activity report to be approved by the Graduate Program and a final report within 60 (sixty) days after the end of the fellowship.

II – Dedicate themselves fully to the fellowship research project.

III – Act as co-supervisor for undergraduate or master’s students, depending on the availability of students within the research group.

IV – Engage in teaching activities within the Graduate Program in Health Sciences (minimum of 15 teaching hours per semester).

V – Reimburse CAPES for any funds received irregularly, except in cases of force majeure, unforeseeable circumstances, or serious illness duly justified and documented.


VOLUNTARY POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

Applications to participate in the Postdoctoral Program at the Federal University of Uberlândia (PPD-UFU) must be submitted by a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Health Sciences, who will act as the postdoctoral supervisor. The application must be approved by the program’s academic committee.

The postdoctoral proposal must include:

I – Research project with a detailed activity plan;

II – Timeframe for the postdoctoral activities;

III – Description of materials needed, physical space, labs or other resources to be provided by UFU;

IV – Statement of approval from the Director of the Academic Unit where the fellowship will be carried out, regarding the resources mentioned above;

V – Application form for inclusion in the PPD-UFU;

VI – Updated CV on the Lattes Platform;

VII – Clear, legible copy (front and back) of the doctoral diploma;

VIII – Commitment Agreement (as per model) and Intellectual Property Declaration (as per model);

IX – Statement from the institution where the applicant is employed (if applicable), agreeing to terms of leave or required dedication to the fellowship;

X – Other necessary documents depending on the specifics of the proposal.

XI – Required personal documents:

a) Civil registration (birth or marriage certificate);

b) Identity document;

c) Electoral clearance certificate (available at: https://www.tse.jus.br/eleitor/certidoes/certidao-de-quitacao-eleitoral);

d) CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry);

e) Military service certificate (if male);

f) Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or official certificate of course completion).


After approval by the Graduate Program Committee, enrollment and registration must follow the procedures of the Dean’s Office for Research and Graduate Studies and the Academic Records and Control Directorate.

The applicable regulations are CAPES Ordinance 86/2013 and UFU Resolution CONPEP-2015/18.
